Subject:     The changing shape of Australia’s immigration policy

The population of Australia is increasing due to the visibility of immigrants. The Australian government needs to revise the immigration policy to keep the balance between population and financial considerations. However, it has been revealed that immigration has created an impact on the country’s development and character. It is a fact that family migration has been reduced in this country. Skilled Migration has been increased, which is a threat to the national labor or workforce. In the last decade, people are migrating to Australia with a temporary visa. People want to work and live here in a temporary visa. People from the United Kingdom, China, and India are coming to this region for better career and social growth. However, on the other hand, Australia needs to revisit or review its public policy regarding immigration (Doherty and Evershed).

Now, it seems imperative to initiate a debate about migrant priority. For Instance, it is the best time for the Australian government to decide which migrants are to be prioritized. An increasing number of people have increased the cost of the country regarding resource allocation. For Instance, family migration was effective in this country a few decades ago. Now, the population has increased dramatically. Australia can take financial benefits from skilled labor. It is in the best interest of the country to prioritize skilled migration. People have to work in different public and private organizations with lower bargaining power. The cost of dealing with these people is lower than family workers and natives. Thus, concerning these facts, prioritizing the skilled migration instead of families is the legitimate public policy recommendation (Tani).

Now, targeting the ethnic group in the country is not the right approach. For Instance, the Chinese group has obliterated housing market. Africans are making gangs in different regions. Thus, handling these people is much more costly. Australian government only has to open ways for these people, which can ensure some monetary benefits for the long run. People from different parts of the world are coming to Australia to study. However, they are living illegally. Thus, restructuring the public policy to regulate immigrants can open ways for permanent and humanitarian migrants, and interestingly, these are good regarding financial benefits. These people are coming for their contribution, and Australia should look forward (Doherty).

Prioritizing the migration is also better for Australia to gain long-term public finance benefits. For Instance, the price of fixed public goods can be reduced by the government. It is a fact that immigration creates a direct impact on public finance.  However, it is necessary to keep the cost or price of public fixed goods such as accommodation and many other related things equal to natives and immigrants. Interestingly, it is possible if the country makes the priority migrant public policy as far as immigration is concerned. 700,000 temporary visas have increased the cost of fixed public goods, and it reduces opportunities for natives. Now, it is important to turn this consideration into a productive debate to find some better solutions (Anderson).

By keeping the balance between permanent and temporary visas, Australia can gain long-term monetary benefits. Skilled migrants are highly recommended to the productivity commission as well to streamline possible financial benefits. People want to come to this urbanized country.

The government should see these immigrants from different perspectives. It should clarify priorities and come up with an effective public policy that can depict benefits for both natives and immigrants. Australia is capable of renewing the policy, and this time it will go in favor of the country.
