Walmart through a Store Associate’s Eyes: Ria Kumar’s In-Store Experience

Why did associate seem unfriendly and unmotivated?

Working in Wal-Mart was a wonderful experience for RIA, as working in the top retail chain always fascinates me. However, this has been revealed that the associates were unfriendly and unmotivated due to the frustrations at the workplace. This is a fact that the employees or associates in the different stores lacked the proper incentives, which lead towards disruptive motivations. Thus, with the new arrivals in the stores, they wanted to depict their anger. The example of Linda is quite prominent in this case, as she did not reveal or share information with the new employees, as she got fed up with the company policies and structures (Okulski)

What could Wal-Mart do to motivate the employees?

The job rotation program by the managers and attractive incentive structure are the pertinent strategies for the management of the company to motivate the employees. In-store working, the experience is not good for the employee, and due to the flexibility in the job duties, motivation can be gained. For example, Wal-Mart already considered the short staff in the different stores. Interestingly, most of the employees were observed absent on Mondays. Thus, to grab motivation, it seems good to facilitate the employees through new employee trends such as job rotations, work flexibility and attractive incentives on and off duties (Wahba).

Would you want to work at Wal-Mart? Why or Why not?

Yes, I would like to work at Wal-Mart, as I want to work in the best retail chain in the world. I want to collaborate with the senior management in the company and learn different things. Wal-Mart has changed the employee structure regarding incentives. Salary packages and a pertinent work environment are initiated to motivate the employee. Being a new employee of the company, I can expect even more from the management of the company. To deal with incompetent or lazy people, the company is capable of changing the structure. Despite having the risk of unfair employee activities, I want to work in this company to learn to develop and groom (Okulski).
