Self-Efficacy and Work Performance: A Theoretical Framework of Albert Bandura’s Model, Review of Findings, Implications and Directions for Future Research: Article Summary

The Research Question/Purpose

The purpose of the research article is to examine the work performance of different people in different organizations. When examining the performance, the concept of self-efficacy can be used to derive the level of the performance. Thus, the purpose is to depict an impact of self-efficacy on the performance of different individuals in an organization (Iroegbu, 2015).

Question

“How self-efficacy can help employees to work with great efficiency and productivity along with some improvements to meet desired goals and objectives in the company”

The Main Used Theories (Theoretical Background)

The social learning theory is in the limelight in this article. Interestingly, this theory also integrates with the Albert Bandura’s Model.  It seems necessary for the company management to implement some training methodologies in the company, as it can motivate an individual to judge his ability to attain a specific objective. In addition, another prominent theory or concept is self-efficacy. The self-efficacy defines the intentions and ability of people to execute some actions in different situations. It has been revalued that people with high self-efficacy contain the high performance. Conversely, people with the low self-efficacy contain type low performance in an organization.

Explaining the Main Key Words

Work Performance, Self-Efficacy, Organizations, Social Cognition Theory are some important keywords, and the whole article revolves around these keywords. In the company, the performance can be increased by increasing the self- efficacy.  An individual can increase his assertiveness in meeting several goals and objectives. The organization is a platform for employees to work with the high self-efficacy (Iroegbu, 2015).

The Research Method/Methodology

This article depicts the qualitative research methodology, as the data has been collected through observations, interviews, literature, ideas, and thoughts. It seems the best methodology, as it has helped to gather a good data to obtain some results regarding the relationship between work performance and self-efficacy. Through this qualitative research, the article integrates with several behavioral theories as well, which makes it unique.

The Main Theoretical Contributions

The main theoretical effort in this article is quite visible. For Instance, through using different theories in the research, the researcher has gained the success in obtaining different levels of efficacy and performance. Different situations at the workplace are triggered by different theories such as the theory of motivation, social learning, and self- efficacy. Thus, the main contribution is making this article result oriented (Iroegbu, 2015).

The Main Managerial Contributions

The managerial contribution in this article is also visible. For Instance, the role of the manager in the company is to motivate employees through eliminating negative emotions. The role of the manager in the company is to increase the self- efficacy of employees to contribute to the success in an effective and lucrative manner. In different challenging situations, making employee assertive and helping them to increase the positivism is great contribution, which justifies the self- efficacy.

The Main Limitations

The main limitation of the Bandura’s social cognitive theory of self-efficacy is that it is not directly related to the work performed. In this article, the self-efficacy has been described as a prominent factor only. It is a fact that there are different organizational interventions, which emerge in this article. Obviously, these interventions are creating the impact on the level of self-efficacy. Thus, this limitation depicts lack of integration with these organizational interventions, which can create the prominent impact on the self –efficacy (Iroegbu, 2015).

The Research Directions/Implications/Suggestion

The research starts with the description of self-efficacy and the impact on the performance. Exceptionally, the research evolved smoothly. For Instance, after predicting this relationship, different work situations are explained. The research tells the stress and work challenges as well, which can create the negative impact of the self-efficacy, and accordingly on the performance.  Along with this, the managerial contributions are quite prominent to increase the level of the efficacy. Thus, the direction of the research is pertinent to the research objectives. The suggestion is to make different phases of the research to enhance the understanding (Iroegbu, 2015).
