Research Proposal: Technology and Education

Technology has impacted 21st century post-secondary education positively as it has improved on studying methods, combating plagiarism, and off-campus learning.

It was difficult to choose a specific topic from the broad range of options we had, but I figured this topic is easily relatable to myself, who is a post-secondary student and who is fascinated with new technology, be it hardware or software. I originally planned on focusing on the negative side of the argument, but I sided on the positive after giving it some thought. I am interested to learn how technology, like the Internet, has impacted on how we students have changed the way we study, from just having textbooks to a plethora of related information at our fingertips. Naturally, there is also an equal amount of information that is not relevant, but I believe we have fine-tuned our methods of picking out information that is viable. Plagiarism has always been something to be careful of when it comes to writing in school, and I’m actually curious to see how large of an impact the new methods and programs have on catching offenders, accidental or otherwise. Off-campus learning through online lessons is quite valuable for heavy work-load students. I would like to know how it has been improved when it comes to the biggest flaw of offline learning, the lack of personal interaction. This would be excellent for me to know as several general elective courses are online only.
