Solution
Personality and Self-Concept
Communication skill is my strength to deal with different personalities in organizations. It helps me retain good relationships with people and makes me an effective team player and leader as well. Moreover, my critical thinking and creativity skills make my skill set unique among others. Stress is the biggest weakness in my personality, which is also a big barrier to becoming a better leader in the future. Within the context of the company, I have to take multiple responsibilities which often involve handling stressful situations. Taking stress creates a negative impact on the work and on the quality of leadership. Even though I have good communication skills I get a little nervous in the presence of a large audience.
Industry conferences are held in the limelight for business people to expand their network. Thus, it seems a great opportunity for me to use it to expand the network, take advantage of, and increase my knowledge. Another opportunity presented to me is to adopt effective decision-making approaches such as rational decision making (Adair, 2013). The immense competition within companies in terms of finding the best personality traits and self-concept is a big threat. I am not the only candidate for the future leader, as there are many others who are willing to make the difference. Another threat is the workload, as additional leadership responsibilities along with my duties can impair my performance or contribution.
Human Interaction Skills
Active listening is an effective communication technique. Active listening is a skill of concentration, which makes an individual capable to derive some key insights. In the context of personnel management, active listening is a good technique, as it can help to obtain several thoughts, ideas, opinions, and reservations. The leader of the company can rely on the skill of active listening to make different decisions. Remembering what is being said is important in personnel management. The skill of active listening creates an impact on engagement and motivation. For Instance, if an individual listens to other people in the organization, more result-oriented engagement is possible. In every aspect of operation, active listening connects the listener and communicator. Through concentrating and understanding the message, long-term relationships can be made. This can be instrumental for a leader. The active listening streamlines the effective communication process regarding the work process (Publishing, 2009). The other skill is patience, as any individual has to demonstrate some tolerance as well. In personnel management, patience retains good relations and provides an opportunity to improve work performance (Caroselli, 2002). Workplace productivity can be improved through these skills.
Personal Development Plan
It seems to be a good experience to shape personal leadership philosophy. Instead of focusing on decision making, problem-solving, and communication skills, concentrating on these advanced skills can help to make the difference regarding motivation, productivity, overall performance, and the human relations in the company. The skill of getting involved with everyone has helped me shape my leadership philosophy. I want to emerge as a democratic leader in the organization. Setting the deadline, shaping the mindset, skill set development, taking action, task completion, and rewarding myself are several steps, which are to be implemented to achieve these goals. Several obstacles to attaining these goals are fear, failure, and Procrastination. To eliminate the fear, I have to boost my confidence level. By boosting confidence, I can streamline my presence and achieve goals. The appropriate action after any failure is to learn from mistakes. Relative to procrastination, the right skill at the right time should be learned and executed to become the prominent contributor to the organization.
