Why have most government efforts to “help” the Native Americans failed?
Most of the government effort to help Native American failed due to many reasons. There are several efforts such as education, employment, and many other community services for these people. However, the resistance of these people is the big factor. Historically, the government broke treaties, stole land and put them on the reservation. Therefore, normally, they do not accept these efforts. Also, it has been revealed that the American government is not depicting 100% execution of goals and objective. For Instance, when educating Native American in different schools, mandatory subjects are English and Math. No science subjects are taught by institutions. Science, history, and art are a need of these people. Thus, in the education sector, these efforts failed (Brown, 2017). The land is owned and managed by the country, and it seems the major conflict between Native Americans and the government. They want their land back.
On the other hand, the government is trying to develop these people against their land rights. Unfortunately, it is not the way to deal with these people, and it is one of the biggest factors regarding failure. Moreover, these people (Native Americans) are living in different tribes. Instead of gaining benefits from the government’s efforts, these people are looking to develop their resources. For Instance, energy regulation goes against tribes (Regan, 2014). Thus, all efforts by the government are rejected or violently opposed by these people due to these conflicts. There is a need to identify the cause of the problem and reshape efforts to develop these people. In this contemporary era, the government cannot force Native American. It may result in extreme rebellion and cause destruction. Thus, the government must depict some thoughtful considerations to make these efforts successful and sustainable.
