Managing Diversity in Today’s Workplace: Strategies for Employees and Employers

In the book written by Paludi (2012), there are chapters related to the management of diversity as it is focused in the book that there are demographics of workplaces in the United States because there are different types of people at one workplace. It is concerned in the book that there is greater racial diversity and more women employees as well as the aged employees in the companies, therefore, the management of the company needs to effectively deal with human resource management issues. In order to effectively deal with the workplace professionals, the company needs to focus on the best practices in order to tackle the diversity issues and in this way, company can perform more effectively and there can be an increase in profitability and success (Paludi, 2012).

In the book it is analyzed that companies need to invest more in the training and development of staff and there should be a fair staffing and performance appraisals system in the company so that employees may be motivated. Moreover, in order to deal with the issues related to diversity the company needs to offer equal benefit to all the employees especially related to the equal employment opportunity, compensation, labor relations, health and safety, disciplinary strategies etc. (Paludi, 2012).

Moreover, in order to effectively provide the services to the employees, the company can hire therapists; human resource consultants as well as the management consultants so that there could be effective in the company operations and so that employees may not feel discriminated in the company. In the book, there is also discussion regarding the workable solutions and policies that companies need to implement in order to manage diversity (Paludi, 2012).

Employers need to manage the diversity effectively through implementing different policies as identified in the book that there should be formal mentoring programs, paid leave policy, flexible work schedules, diverse succession planning in the company because in this way a company can efficiently deal with the 21st-century workforce. The companies in the modern workplace need to get an understanding of managing diversity so that there could be equality towards the transgender female workers, generational cohorts etc. (Paludi, 2012).

The book is related to this course because it provides the understanding that how companies can effectively manage diversity issues in the company and there is the professional training of the HR professionals so that they could effectively deal with the issues in modern organizations. This book is helpful for human resource specialists.

For the book critique, it is noticed that there is a large section in the book that only discusses the diversity related to gender stereotyping as there is fewer concerns or discussion regarding the solution of the problem. However, the book is a great source to get the understanding regarding diversity that is the main concern of every organization in the modern world, because companies not resolving these issues can face depression, loss etc.

The author of book have used effective writing style in his book so that reader can get better underusing that how much it is important for the company to deal with issues related to diversity; through focus more about the gender, minorities, hispanics, stereotypes, sexual harassment, author develop reader interest and provided with the great information that how policies need to be implemented for the effectiveness in the workplace and for the satisfaction of the workers.

It can be concluded that this book is helpful as there is focus on the stereotyping that is associated with the culture and their guidance is given to the professional; so that they could get understand that how these issues can be responded to. Thus, the book suggested the best possible results for the company to produce an optimal work environment.
