Costco Wholesale Corporation is a trading company. It is an American multinational corporation. According to the financial performance of the Costco Wholesale Corporation in 2015, it was the second largest retailer around the globe after Wal-Mart. Later on in 2016, it became the largest retailer globally related to items like choice and Prime beef, organic foods, and wine. It is a public limited company and is registered at Nasdaq. It is registered under the Retail Industry and its predecessor is the price club. It was founded back in 1976 and is headquartered in Washington, United States. It has total 741warehouses approximately up till August 2018. The company is focused towards serving in different areas like United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Mexico, Australia, Japan, South Korea, France, Taiwan, and Iceland. The services provided by the company are related to Merchandise, warehouse club, and cash and carry (Yahoo Finance, 2018). The company is responsible for employing almost 231,000 employees as of 2017.
As far as my interest in working with this company is concerned, I would be definitely willing to work with this company by looking at the strength of this company and the influence of this company on its market share. It is the leader in its industry so it would be a great opportunity for me to get employment in this company. One of the most significant strengths of this company is pricing authority which suggests that the company can maximize its prices in the short term and is able to earn a significant amount of profit. This clearly suggests that this company would be a perfect choice for employment.
Another significant strength of the company is its brand loyalty because the company is Focus towards offering high quality-oriented products with Great Value to its customers. This creates reality in their customer base. These positive factors clearly suggest that the company will have a bright future and positive financial performance, which is a good sign.
What is the culture of the organization?
From cultural aspect, Costco Wholesale Corporation is considered to be the best Organization in United States. Recently, Costco Wholesale Corporation was successful in taking lead from Google in successfully earning the title of America’s best large employer. In order to declare any company as best employer, almost 30000 workers working at United States organizations are requested to participate in service and they are requested to provide answers related to their work experiences. It is important to mention here that Costco Wholesale Corporation remained in top 3 from several years which clearly suggest that the company is moving in the right direction and the vision of the company formulated by the top-level management is also right (Stallard, 2017).
The company is focused on implementation of connection culture in order to formulate a sense of association for the Employees with the company. One of the most significant visions of Costco Wholesale is to make sure that the organization is able to provide people help which would make them meet ends and also helped the business is to become more effective and efficient. Another significant element of Costco Wholesale Corporation is that it values its human resources and people, which is very important for organizations to have positive culture. Organization is Focus on implementation of a family like culture at workplace (Meyer, 2017).
The top-level management of Costco Wholesale Corporation is Focus towards providing opportunities to employees in order to raise their voice. Employees working at Costco Wholesale Corporation are encouraged to share their experiences and opinions in decision making in order to enhance their Association with decision making in the company. The overall culture of Costco Wholesale Corporation provides a source of competitive advantage which helps to enhance the performance of employees working in the organization and also helps them to face difficulties effectively and efficiently. The current leadership of Costco Wholesale Corporation is focused on formulation of future generations of Costco leaders in order to have same culture in future generation (Stallard, 2017).
Are there any major organizational changes incurred in recent years?
The organizational culture of Costco Wholesale Corporation is becoming stronger and stronger with the passage of time. The top-level management is focused on enhancing the level of culture in the organization. The management is of the view that culture is not only the most important thing in the organization, but it is the only thing. This clearly suggests the importance of workplace culture for the top-level management of Costco Wholesale Corporation. Not only the full-time workers but the part time workers in the organization are also provided with attractive benefits like dental insurance and full health plan with stock options after a year. This clearly suggests that Human Resource Department of Costco Wholesale corporation is Focus towards treating the employees in similar manner (Pratap, 2017).
One of the most recent and significant contributions towards the workplace culture in Costco Wholesale corporation is that the organization is focused on implementation of Trust factor in culture prevailing at workplace. The organization provides opportunities to employees to hold significant and better responsibilities and position as compared to its competitors. The organization also provides all Employees with liberal vacation and family leave time (Llopis, 2011). All these factors clearly suggest that the workplace culture of Costco Wholesale Corporation is beneficial for the employees working in the organization and for the overall image of the organization as well. These factors positively contribute towards the motivation level of the employees which ultimately enhances their individual performance level and ultimately enhances the overall performance of the organization. Organization is Focus towards making employees accountable and ethical at workplace. Employees are provided with appropriate responsibilities and authorities in order to make sure that the assigned objectives and responsibilities are successfully fulfilled (McCarthy, 2017).
