In one of this week’s videos, Adam Lashinsky’s Keeping Company Secrets, Lashinsky describes some of Apple’s practices regarding compartmentalization of work and information. Apple has been described as employing confidentiality like that of the National Security Agency. What are your thoughts pertaining to such a locked-down security atmosphere? Does it help or hinder the creative process, and why?
Apple Inc has enhanced the visibility of compartmentalization. Apple Inc wants to keep company’s secrets from outsiders and different key business stakeholders. Interestingly, the company has applied the approach, which is used by the security agency. Even at the workplace, the employee does not know how the management and customer analyze the product. This information seems irrelevant to them. For Instance, if the company a share this information, they may lose focus at the workplace, and it can hinder the creativity and innovation as well. Keeping the company’s secret is the best approach to sustain the business and develop the constructive workforces, which focus on creativity and innovation. Apple Inc has justified this approach, as secrets are kept effectively. Similar to the national security agency, apple management does not reveal anything in internal business, a process (Lashinsky, 2012).
The purpose of this compartmentalization is to make locked down security visible in the company. Also, it helps in the creative process. For Instance, in this firm, employees are free to streamline different ideas and work in a creative environment. Hiding information protects the firm from the product imitation as well. Relative to the internal business process, keeping the information away from different stakeholders can help to produce something new and different. If the company shares the information with stakeholders, including employees, there is always a chance of products or outputs, which are predictable. However, to justify the creativity, everyone in the company must have to look for some unpredictable products. It seems interesting approach in this company, which is good to sustain the creativity. The management of the company gains the help of this approach. It is quite different from other companies, as it makes it different from other companies in the competitive market. Keeping Company Secrets seems worthy, and it must be sustained (Kingsley-Hughes, 2016).
