HRMT416: New Employee Orientation/Socialization

Discuss what your experiences have been with new employee orientation and/or on-boarding procedures when joining a new organization. What was your best experience and why? The worst? After completing the reading for this week, what would you have done differently to improve the process?

Experience with new employee orientation

The employee orientation is a process of introducing employees to new work conditions and new job tasks.  It is a great chance for employees to meet with new people, visits department and know the company before starting the work.  It is a fact that the employee orientation may be the best or worse experience for many people. It depends on the culture of the company, as every organization may have different new employee orientation (Albert & Foley, 2010).

The best experience

I was hired by a multinational firm. The organization had a good culture, which depicted the attractive orientation. In the new employee orientation, the experience was good, as I was respected by the company managers.  The management presented the comprehensive analysis of the company along with different success stories. All stakeholders of the company welcomed me in different departments. It was a good experience because everyone in the company was quite assertive in giving answers to different questions (Westwood & Johnson, 2004).

Worst Experience

In another organization, this experience was worse. People were showing their aggression in the new employee orientation process. It was a local firm, and the behavior of people in the company was quite defensive (Albert & Foley, 2010). They were not ready to provide answers and effectively talk about the company. Thus, it was the worst experience for me.

Process Improvement

The process of the new employee orientation process can be improved through the structured process. There should be appropriate planning regarding the employee orientation, which can be remembered by employees for a long run. Making a team of successful people in the company is a good approach to provide necessary information to new employees. Different technological resources must be utilized in the new employee orientation process to save the time and cost. It can attract employees, and definitely, they can create the positive perception of the company (Westwood & Johnson, 2004).
