HRMT416: Learning Needs Assessment in the Workplace

Describe the role that learning styles, techniques, strategies, and perceptual preferences can and/or do play in learning.

How is learning facilitated in your organization or workplace? Are training needs met in your opinion? If so, how? If not, how could they be improved?

Learning and specifically effective learning has been a major aim and concern for the organization’s development. The development of human resource is specifically concerned with the learning capabilities, strategies, and styles. It is important to the trainers or HR departments who are concerned with understanding the methods through which effective learning can be achieved. Learning styles are how individuals tend to learn more easily and quickly as compared to other styles. The individuals prefer to perceive and interpret information in their preferred ways (Yassin & Almasri, 2015).

Learning style refers to how individuals process information. It is important for the trainers and the HR department to know what their employees prefer learning styles. It can make their learning process more effective. The preferred learning style can help develop learning strategies which also play an important role in making learning process effective. The observation of the preference of employees while they present information can lead to show their preferred learning style. Like, if they are using organized information or merely an overview or if they are using images to present results or detailed and logical analysis. The idea behind learning styles is that each is different and hence has different perceptual preferences for learning styles (Sarabdeen, 2013).

The learning process within our organization is based on the need raised by an employee or upper management. On request of the employee or upper management, concerned training is suggested and delivered to the employees. However, this can be improved. The HR department can establish a process of needs assessment of each department regarding needed training. Then the best training available can be delivered to the departments. The feedback process should be enabled for employees to rate the training outcomes on their learning. The preferred learning styles can be deduced as well through this process.
