In today’s complex and highly competitive global business environment, companies want to know that leaders at all levels will not be complacent within their positions in the company, and that they will proactively engage in leadership development.

Throughout the weeks in this course, you have conducted a variety of leadership self-assessments, examined leadership theories, and completed assignments that were designed to help you understand the skills and competencies needed to become an effective global leader. The activities in this course were also designed to help you look for ways to engage in ongoing global leadership development. You should now be well prepared to successfully complete this assignment.

Scenario

For this assignment, imagine that you have been recruited for a mid-level leader position within a global organization. You have been through three rounds of intense interviews and have been invited back to make a last presentation to senior executive leadership. You have been directed to present your plan for ongoing leadership development.

Introduction

In the international business environment, the intention of the company is to make employee leaders. The leadership in the organization must have to contain leadership development. People are to be directed towards the right path, and through effective leadership development, a big difference can be made.   There are several traits and characteristics that a leader can adapt to become the effective leader. The company must facilitate the leadership development process, as it is effective and lucrative for the company.  The most important thing is to increase the personal level competency, which helps top emerge as an effective leader (Banutu-Gomez, 2011).

Leadership traits to adopt

The modern business era may contain stress and frustration. Thus, emotional stability is an appropriate trait to tolerate these factors. A good leader has to adopt emotional stability to control different things in the company. Dominance is another leadership trait, as actions and decisions are to be differentiated to justify dominance. Furthermore, social boldness is another trait, as leaders are aggressive or responsive regarding several social issues. An effective leader always contains the Enthusiasm, as he seems active, expressive, and optimistic to control ort manager different things.  In the global business, these traits are necessary to adopt (Doğan, Schroevers, & Venter, 2016).

Leadership characteristics to adopt

The prominent characteristic that an effective leader can adopt is honesty. This trait facilitates leaders to contain the ethical business process as well. The big and prominent characteristic of the leader is to inspire others. Leadership must enhance the visibility of the depiction, which can inspire others.  The commitment and passion regarding other things are also characteristics of the leader. Passion and motivation also motivate others in the company to accomplish different goals and objectives. A good leader is a good communicator, as effective communication reduces the gap and enhances the visibility of the engagement. Thus, these are some key characteristics to adopt in the global business environment (Goldsmith, Greenberg, Robertson, & Hu-Chan, 2003).

What it means to be an effective global leader

An effective global leader in the global business environment usually contains project credibility. Through prominent emotional intelligence, the leader pivots different things in an adequate manner. Moreover, the global leader becomes effective due to the inclusive behavior. Showing assertiveness in the problem-solving process and aggression in decision making are key aspects of an effective global leader. In global business, communication is a key element, and it seems important for the leader.  However, even in virtual communication, effective leadership can be justified through effective communication.  Attracting sponsorship at the top level through considering some top performers is a remarkable approach to be an effective global leader (Gundling & Hogan, 2011).

Global leadership and Future Impact

Being a business professional, global leadership attracts me personally and it seems pertinent to my future. For Instance, the global leader must have to adopt the communication skill to participate in the virtual communication. Accordingly, I have to adopt this skill to have a bright future. Moreover, emotional intelligence and social boldness are aspects of global leadership. Being a part of the company, I would like to consider things through both emotional and business intelligence. In future, I will be in a better position to control the business and direct people. The current global leadership and its effectiveness help me prepare myself for future endeavors (Henson, 2016).

The personal level of leadership competency

The personal level of leadership competency is important to analyze to make some improvements. I contain social intelligence, as I am able to work in different social situations and dynamics. I also have competency to prudence, and it is quite visible in my decision-making process. I am a big risk taker, as I am encouraged to take big risks to gain maximum benefits. Being a competent leader, I always stand up what I believe and intend to do the right things in different situations. However, there are many flaws regarding personal leadership competency, and some improvements can be initiated.

Strategies and best practices for ongoing global leadership development

There are several strategies or practices for ongoing global leadership development. For Instance, the best practice for the leadership development is to target the effective managers from different regions of the business. With the perspective of the company, it must plan to develop pertinent global skills. Conversely, the best strategy for global leadership development is to derive or investigate some competencies which are required for the global leadership process.  Involving some senior leaders and tracking the business results along with the leadership development are some key practices. The most important thing is to combine strategies and best practices to make some outputs quite predictable (Mobley & Dorfman, 2003).

Actual leadership development plan to improve my competencies

I have to improve my competencies. Therefore, I need an actual leadership development plan.  Different steps in the actual leadership development plans for me are perceiving great leaders, self-assessment, identification of core values, writing a vision statement, analyzing other’s perceptions, identification of lacking skills or competencies, setting goals and taking actions. For Instance, in the situational leadership, the competency of employee involvement and team building can be justified. Based on the situation, I have to adapt the style of the leadership to integrate with the development levels of employees (Mobley & Ming Li, 2011).

Plan to continue your leadership development

Planning to continue leadership development is necessary. For Instance, to contain the effective leadership development process, I have to integrate with some modern leadership trends. Modern leadership trends can help me to adopt some key skills and characteristics along with some global leadership competencies. For Instance, regarding the trait theory of leadership, my plan is to identify or adopt some new traits, which can make me different leaders from others (Kitada, Williams, & Froholdt, 2015).

Types of training and development activities that will help you improve

 There are several training activities or training interventions, which can help me to make some improvements. The prominent training activity is to build the emotional intelligence to perceive people behaviors in an effective manner (Joyce Osland, Maznevski, Stevens, Stah, & l, 2013). The human Icebreaker is a key leadership training activity, which enables connectivity and reduces tension. Every member has to come up with a series of questions to enhance the visibility of discussion. Another training activity for improvement is “leaders you admire”, as I have to discussion leaders I know along with a pertinent rational. Listening to other is also a part of the training activity (Kessler & Wong-MingJi, 2009).

Integration with leadership theories

The integration with leadership theories is pertinent. The leadership style and theory are triggered by some improvements in terms of effectiveness, traits, and characteristics. For Instance, in the transformational leadership, I have to communicate with people and identify the change with the passage of the time. An effective global leader can create a vision to direct change.  In the business transformational process, I want to become a transformational leader along with required leadership traits and characteristics (Kessler & Wong-MingJi, 2009).

Conclusion

In end, it is to conclude that the global leadership process is important for the company. However, global leadership must have to evolve.  Leadership development plan and several training activities are to be considered to justify the purpose. Global leaders are inspirations for me, and I want to derive some key insights to emerge as an effective global leader.
