This module has introduced me with somewhat a new concept of ethics that needs to be applied in our professional lives. It has enlightened me with how to deal with and act in certain situations, i.e., what must be done and what must be avoided in the light of ethics in our careers.
My previous understanding of the topic was a little vague as I never studied it in detail before. I expected to learn the morals and the values precisely that must be followed in the practice of engineering to prove oneself as an ethical professional.
This lecture sheds light upon the basic concept of ethics in engineering, i.e. the moral principles that are obligatory for an engineer to follow as he owes them to the society, to his profession and to the clients and the unethical forms and the situations that one has to deal with in his career where he must remain focused and does not allow his interest to make him act unethically. The lecture also introduced us with our ethical responsibilities in the offices; the constraints of an ethical leader and how he must develop these ethical skills. The concept of whistleblowing was also introduced, i.e. when an engineer is allowed to or when he must report a particular problem outside the company. Furthermore, it enlightened us with how to deal with moral dilemmas, how decisions must be taken and how certain problems must be resolved.
This topic made me realizes how important it is for an engineer to behave ethically in his professional life and perform all his actions with honesty and integrity. From now on, I will look upon the moral problems in my life from a different perspective, and I aim to apply all these principles in my future career with the highest regard.
