“Compare and contrast two state legislative candidates running for the same seat in this fall’s election. Who are these people? What party do they represent; what is their background and experience; what issues matter to them? Please discuss each candidate’s background, education and experience, and discuss what each candidate says that he or she would do.

Joe Fain and Mona Das

The 2018 State Legislature Elections will take place on Tuesday, 6th November, in the United States. The elections are being monitored by the local governments and the individual states instead of at the federal level. The state of Washington contains 49 Legislative Districts. Democrat Mona Das is standing against the Republican Joe Fain in the 47thLegislative District for the position of the State Senator (O’Sullivan, 2018).

Joe Fain has been a part of the Washington State Senate for the legislative district no. 47th since 2010 when he first got elected as a State Senator, and then he got re-elected for his second term by a huge margin in 2014. Fain belongs to a South King country where he was born and brought up. He did his Bachelors in Political Science from the University of Washington. He later joined Seattle University to receive a law degree and also performed his master’s in Business Administration from the same university. He was a swimming coach in the Highline and Renton School Districts and also received recognition for the “Washington State Swim Coach of the Year” in the year 2002 (Votefain.Com, 2018).

Fain is also the youngest elected member of the State Senate in Washington, DC, and he has also served on the Senate’s insurance committees, financial institutions, education (early learning and k-12 bit) transportation, and housing committees. Apart from this, Fain has also served as the vice chair of Legislative Evaluations and the Accountable program which is the source of budgets and data analysis. Fain was also elected as a majority floor leader of the Senate before the session of 2013. During that time, he was also named to the leadership team, the leadership cabinet of transportation budget and the rules committee of Senate (Staff Reports, 2018).

Apart from this, Fain has also worked with the lawmakers of South King County to fund the King County for the flood control for the repairmen of homes and businesses that were damaged during the flood in 2011. In addition to this, Fain has also served the South King County regarding securing its transportation funding for a whole new infrastructure that includes increasing the capacity of roads and improvement regarding freight mobility. Moreover, in the year 2013, Fain made an effort to provide the funding for food assistance which includes the State is providing the money to low-income immigrants for grocery. He has worked with his colleagues from the Democratic Party and the Republican Party to save 9 million dollars for a 50 percent increment in the benefits.

On the other hand, Mona Das is originally from India as her parents immigrated to America when she was only eight months old with the dream to give Mona a better life. Her parents have always considered education as the most important thing. Thus, Mona did her Bachelor’s of Art in Psychology from the University of Cincinnati. It helped her to excel in the tech industry locally in America and internationally as well. Later, in the year 2012, she also did a Master’s in Business Administration from the Presidio Graduate School.

Mona established the roots of her career in Portland by having a successful career in the tech industry. In the year 2004, she started her start-up Moxy Mortgage which was based on providing education to home-buyers. From a small startup in Portland, the company grew into a fifty-state lender. Apart from this, Mona has also served at the Presidio Graduate School on the Board of Trustees. She has been a part of numerous programs that promotes and encourages women to take on leadership in their respective businesses (Electmona.Com, 2018).
