Addressing the Meeting
Purpose of the Meeting: The purpose of the meeting was to elaborate on the importance of active listening along with the navigations of the different barriers. People in this meeting were business professionals, students, and different society activists, who had to communicate with the immense range of people and listen to others in response. During the speech, this was essential for people to be involved in the meeting to enhance the visibility of active listening. Obviously, there were some traits and trends, which were to be used when listening, to understand the meanings, and derive the insights.
Clearly analyze at least three potential barriers to active listening that you or another member of the meeting encountered.
Barriers to Active Listening: During the speech, I intended to evade the barriers regarding active listening; I had encountered barriers such as distraction, belief an attitude and lack of interest.
Describe each barrier and evaluate each barrier’s impact on listening and on the meeting’s quality as a whole.
Barriers & Impact on Listening: Elaborating the physical distraction, this was a fact that an individual could be distracted through navigation of the mobile phone and laptop during the speech. I could have missed some points due to the distractions. I encountered it through turning off my mobile phone and laptop. Second, due to the different interests, the speech seemed meaningless to me. I was triggered by personal activities so due to lack of interest and encountered it with depicting the determinations. Owing to the pertinent determination, I was quite focused and committed to listening and derives something new that had never been done before. Third, the listening barrier was the different attitudes and opinions. I was so certain of my ideas or opinion, but I had encountered this through keeping control on my emotions when getting something beyond my expectations and ideas (King).
Provide at least three strategies for active listening that you or others in the meeting should adopt. Describe each strategy and analyze how it would improve listening and the meeting’s quality as a whole if your group were to meet again.
Three Strategies for Active Listening: Concerning the active listening strategies, I should have adopted three different strategies to accelerate the active listening. The first strategy was facing the speaker and maintaining eye contact with the speaker. I should have used this strategy because through facing and maintaining eye contact, I could focus and listen carefully. I could depict my intention in the speech through eye contact to ensure that I was listening to the speaker and understanding what is being delivered.
Also, another strategy was keeping the mind open, and this was the best strategy to keep attitudes and beliefs far behind in speech. With an open mind, I would like to learn and stem new things from speech. The improvements could be enhanced through listening without containing the solutions when participating in the meeting or gathering in the group. Through an open mind, we could gather immense information to make the decisions, and this would be a prominent improvement (Schilling).
The third strategy was waiting for the speaker to start the questions session for the participants. It was a good strategy for exceptional improvements, as it reduced the instructions and frustrations during the speech (King).
Improve Listening and the Meeting’s Quality: The most important thing was to increase understanding of several ideas and the purpose of the meeting to trigger with the active and successful listening. The active listening demonstrated the discipline in the meeting, as it was a part of the high quality and successful meeting. It was vital to make the meeting purposeful and result oriented, and implementation of the active listening strategies was good to justify accordingly (Schilling).
