- Evaluate how each matrix is unique in the way it addresses the needs of the customer.
Service Positioning Matrix and the Product-Process Matrix (Comparison & Contrast)
Service Positioning Matrix |
Product Process Matrix |
Similarities |
The service positioning matrix depicts intentions to manage to share the sequences of activities to justify the customer, services, needs, and requirements | Product process matrix depicts the linkage between technology and product lifecycle (Krajewski, Malhotra, & Ritzman, 2015). | Different activities can be seen in both matrixes (Vladimir, 2011) |
It is a linkage of market and operations to come up with the output, which is according to expectations | It is a linkage of product and process structure of the company. | The linkage of the aspects is triggered by the customer needs (Krajewski, Malhotra, & Ritzman, 2015). |
The management chooses or change the facility and process design (Vladimir, 2011) | The management chooses the job, batch or assembly line, connected line flow, and continued flow | The decision-making process is common in these processes. |
Example, Benefits, and Limitations
In the technology market, it has been revealed that the apple company, when developing I phone for the customers, uses these matrixes to meet the needs of the customers. For example, relative to the positioning matrix, Apple Company has developed different activities such as research and development and designed to differentiate the products and position in the minds of the customers. In the production process, the management of Apple Inc intends to make the changes in technology to come up with the new model every year. The big benefit of positioning matrix and the production process are customer engagement and change respectively. The big limitation is that the customers have to wait for a while to be informed (Vladimir, 2011).
Uniqueness of Matrix
The uniqueness of Matrixes is in the limelight due to the possible fulfillment of customer needs. For Instance, in the positioning matrix, the management can add or remove the steps in the best interest of the customers to make changes with the passage of the time. Moreover, concerning the production process, the uniqueness is visible in the form of change in design to integrate with the new customer trends (Krajewski, Malhotra, & Ritzman, 2015).
