Introduction
The corporate social responsibility is an integral part of an organization, especially in the global market. In this study, the focus is on the Starbuck Company, a prominent coffee retail chain in the United States of America. This company is in the limelight due to its CSR initiatives. The main aspects of this study are elaborations of three initiatives; contribution to the community, effectiveness to the community, and effectiveness of employees and the company.
Three CSR Initiatives of Starbucks
‘Three corporate social responsibility initiatives or programs are Green stores, green cups, and green energy. The elaborations of these programs are as under the green store is a green building program, initiated by the company. The main intention of the company is the lead in the environmental and energy designing. The company enables the sustainable building standard through this LEED consideration (Cleantechies, 2012). The Green energy program has been justified by the company through the development of more than 6000 stores with the energy management system. For instance, the pertinent action is the optimization of heating and cooling through investing in different Renewable Energy solutions (Ritter, 2014). Furthermore, the green cup is another initiative to reduce wastes in both, stores and societies. The new and innovative packaging design enables the recycling of the cups. The company is interacting with the customer to make the reuse the cups and contribute to gaining the mutual benefits (Vandeveld, 2015).
Contribute to the Community
The contribution towards the community has been justified in the company. Firstly, through green stores, consisting of containers, trees, and renewable energy resources are to create the best impact on the environment. These are the eco-friendly stores and contribute to the community in the form of better environment, minimum space, and the social awareness. Also, the green energy initiative is contributing through the minimum use of the energy, and through the conservative energy consumption, the company provides the change in the community and utilize the energy sources equally. Moreover, a green cup is a green process production, which enables the safe and healthy environment for people in the different communities (Ritter, 2014).
Effectiveness to the community, the employees, and the company
The community effectiveness through these programs comes into the life due to the awareness, positive impact, and sustainability. The community members can also participate in this program, which can create the impact. Mitigating detrimental impacts of the businesses are justifying the effectiveness to the community. Interestingly, the company is creating a positive impact on the employee as well. Due to these new considerations, the company is developing the employees through proper training. The employees are emerging in the communities to have green interactions with the customers. The effectiveness of the employees is also visible due to the transformation of the store, energy, and recycling process. Reduction in the working hours and ethical work are the outcomes. Concerning the use of recycling, renewable energy solutions, and green building to the company, the company has sustained its operations in the different part of the world. Successfully, the Starbuck company has created the value in the coffee and retail market. All these programs are leading towards the environmental sustainability and differentiated operational processes, and ultimately, it is also leading towards the competitive advantage (Vandeveld, 2015).
Conclusion
In the end, it is to conclude that the Starbucks Company looks aggressive and assertive in initiating the CSR programs to make the business sustainable in the future. The company is setting the new green standard to contribute to the communities and enhancing the prominence of the impact. The elaboration in this study carries the insights regarding the contribution and efficacy of the company, employees, and the community as the whole.
