1-Group leader
For the analysis of this research, I have chosen chapter 8 “Group Leadership”; a few months back, I did my internship in a bank; my supervisor gave me the tasks of a group leader. My supervisor saw leadership qualities in me, and he wanted me to lead a group and guide people as a team leader.
However, I was not just a part of the group, but I was a leader also. We were five people in the company; who was working as an intern; means four people were under my leadership. Our main concern there as an intern was to learn maximum skills that a banker could have; however, I was able to manage the team success because I have such skills. I also identified my leadership skills; after getting insight from this book.
As written, leadership is something that focuses on the behaviors of people, and there should also be focused on the needs and help that people need in order to achieve the goal. I was effectively able to manage the team as the team leader, but it needs to be noticed that I can more effectively manage the team now; because I am able to understand the concepts of a leader that how better leadership can be focused effectively (Hammersley & Reid, 2014).
In the chapter it is investigated that an effective leader needs to have an effective vision, success, as well as complex skill, sets so that there could be benefits related to authentic leadership and so that group members can be satisfied. Thus, it needs to be noticed that after getting clearer concepts on leadership; I can be able to manage group members more effectively (Conger & Riggio, 2012).
2-Secondary Group
It was a secondary group; because there was a purpose in order to get learning about the organization or bank. However, as people or we as a group share only part of life; therefore, our impersonal relationship exists in order to accomplish the task. It is analyzed that as a group we effectively perform our internship, and we fulfill the purpose in order to get an understanding of the bank and its matter. Our group has little social intimacy with each other because everybody wants to get a better position and appreciation; our group has a shorter duration of the bank internship; therefore, our group was a secondary group (Charan, Drotter, & Noel, 2010).
Moreover, as I was a team leader, I show a positive psychological attitude towards my group. It is known that as a part of a secondary group I can better participate in the group because I have effective skills, qualities as well as strong ethics. In a shorter duration, I managed the group well, but I can more effectively manage the group if I work as a manager or group leader.
I admit that at that time being a part of secondary group I do not effectively manage the moral perspectives; however, after getting the insight from this book, I come to know that leader needs to get the self-awareness as well as the relational transparency so that team could be given proper support and so that people of the group can get learning. I am able to recognize strengths and weaknesses of the other group members more effectively now; I have also gained other important elements of effective leadership (Hammersley & Reid, 2014).
3-Joining the Group
The purpose of joining the group was to get my internship in the bank; however, I really enjoyed with my group, and as a group manager or leader I get to learn so many things that how the team could effectively manage. My supervisor saw some skills in means wanted me to perform effectively as a team leader. However, I effectively performed and to know the responsibility of the manager or leader part.
However, getting to understand from the chapter; I learned that there is a need to focus on the task need, team needs, and individual need because every task needs to be effectively performed by a group member. It is analyzed by getting the concepts from the book that employees need to be given training and coaching according to the tasks that they have to perform in the company (Conger & Riggio, 2012).
Through a focus on the team spirit as well as based on individual skills, the tasks need to be assigned. It is concerned that through a focus on the employees or group member skills, the tasks need to be assigned and given based on their skills. Moreover, every organization has a mission; a sense of purpose, therefore, the employees needed to be appreciated and trained, through the rewards as well as the motivation. I can effectively work as a manager and as a leader as I get to know that how effective team members can be focused and how their skills can be analyzed, it is known that proper planning needs to be done and adjustments need to be made according to the individual performance (Charan, Drotter, & Noel, 2010).
Through the analysis of the team members there could be better performance, and in this way, companies can achieve goals more effectively. Through recognition or performance acknowledgment of the employees or group members; employees can best be evaluated and can be motivated in a great way (Charan, Drotter, & Noel, 2010).
4-Group was Functional
Our group was functional as there were collaborative efforts and there was the focus to get common experiences. However, in our group, there was an interaction through effective communication and their shared values and beliefs. Moreover, the functional group can help group members to effectively participate in the group.
It is analyzed that through functional leadership a leader can effectively help his/her group in order to perform or in order to achieve the goal. Functional leadership; as learned in the chapter that it gave insight to the leaders; and leaders in this way can focus on the needs and helps that need to achieve group objectives or goals (Hammersley & Reid, 2014).
Functional leadership can promote effective group work and leadership in this way can access the specific approach that is necessary for supportive coaching. Additional training can be provided through functional leadership, and there could be appropriate actions in this way. Functional leadership can help group members as there is a focus on assisting people. Companies can maintain priority, energy, and enthusiasm of the team workers and group members by providing them with effective leadership (Conger & Riggio, 2012).
It is analyzed that effective and transformational and dynamic relationship can promote organizational objectives; as learned through analyzing the book and there are several components of transformation leadership that need to be applied in order to get success (Conger & Riggio, 2012).
