What is Strategy?

In the article by Michael E. Porter, “What Is Strategy?” there is the focus on the various management tools; the article discusses regarding the partnering, total quality management, benchmarking as well as outsourcing that companies are using these strategies in order to get the effectiveness in the market and in order to improve their operational effectiveness. However, companies are not getting the sustainable profitability because they do not know the cause of the problem; as analyzed that operational effectiveness and strategy are different things and there could be the failure of management of operational effectiveness and strategy are considered same (Porter, What is Strategy?).

It is analyzed through reading the article that the author focuses on the effective points that companies are confusing in the management of operational effectiveness and strategy in real terms as they need to operate both the aspects in different ways. Companies are learning from each other’s in the dynamic markets. However, management of operational effectiveness is concerned, so that there could be the sustainability of competitive advantage like other companies in the industries. Porter discusses valid points that how operational effectiveness results in the superior performance of the companies; there is the need to choose a unique strategy as well as the valuable position so that effectiveness could be there in the processes (Magretta).

There can be effectively in the company operations if companies focus on “managing fit across specific activities” and if companies could reconnect with strategies. There is the need to enforce to clear strategic choice. However, the companies are coping the strategies and operational effectiveness of the other companies to get the competitive advantages; it needs to be known that every company should have own strategic values according to the services. The organizations are not getting the economic gains since they don’t have a clue about the underlying driver of the issues and the organizations are still gaining from one another’s in the dynamic markets without using own mind and strategies.

The author is effectively stating the concepts and importance of the management of operational effectiveness and strategy. For the key progression, the strategies and operational adequacy should be considered so that the company could apply and use the strategies based on the key qualities as indicated by the administrations and for the effectiveness of the customers. I agree with the author that the organizational depends on leadership; therefore, the company through taking help of strong leaders can design own suitable strategies, and there could be own operational management according to the services of the company. For the strategic continuity, and to continually improve the operational effectiveness need to be considered after managing the strategic position (Henderson).

The focus of the author individual components and core competencies need to be valued accordingly the operation of the company. The company’s activities enhance with the use of the clear strategy and as there could be a competitive advantage and sustainability. If a company wants to get the ideal competitive position and need to achieve best practices, then strategies and core competencies could be adopted after considering the operational effectiveness based on the change management (Henderson).

After analyzing the thoughts of the author and after considering the readings regarding the techniques to understand about the competitors’ strategies it is analyzed that companies can get better success in the market if they focus on making own strategies based on the effective leadership as well as the operational effectiveness. Structural change and the new position of the strategies can be there in the companies through addressing and depending on a company’s ability.
